Coronavirus: The Pandemic and Panic

The Coronavirus outbreak, unlike any other pandemic has resulted in a wave of anxiety across the globe. This is largely due to the fact that the world has become a global village; hence, news travels fast to and from different parts of the globe.

Anxiety is an unpleasant state of mental uneasiness, nervousness, apprehension and obsession or concern about an uncertain event. More than half the world population are now self-isolating in an attempt to contain the spread of the virus. We may be fearful about how we might cope for an indefinite period of time away from life as we used to know. People may become anxious about work, being isolated at home, getting basic supplies, or the wellbeing of their loved ones isolated somewhere else.

In addition to day-to-day activities and other uncertainties, the staggering number of cases around the world might make anyone with a dry cough suspect he has Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS).

Staying Calm
